2.00 pm on Friday 30th November, starting from the Welcome Centre.
You may remember that Heather Newton, Head of Conservation at Canterbury Cathedral, talked to the Canterbury Society earlier this year on the current restoration programme. She has very kindly offered to take a group from the society to see the building work, as well as giving a short talk on progress so far. We will be taken up by internal lift to the area within the vault, that is above the temporary nave ceiling. All will be required to don hardhats and wear sensible shoes, not high heels, and none must suffer from giddiness or vertigo. The tour will last up to one and a half hours.
Those wishing to go on this exciting visit should send their names to Hubert Pragnell at:
firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01227 452298.
There will be a charge of £20 which will go towards the Cathedral Restoration Fund: please send a cheque for that amount to Hubert Pragnell, 12 Meadow Road, CT2 8EU. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity as such a substantial restoration is not likely to be undertaken or necessary for a century or more. The group will be limited in numbers so do sign up soon.
