Sloman Report on Sustainable Transport

In 2013, the Canterbury Society commissioned a report on the sustainable transport in the city from an expert consultant, Lyn Sloman. The report focuses on the problems of car usage in a crowded city with a centre based on a medieval street pattern. The report recommends the adoption of a transport hierarchy based on walking, cycling, and public transport with cars a ‘vehicle of last resort’. The report has been very well received by the City Council and its recommendations greatly influenced the transport recommendations in the Council’s Local Plan 2013-31.
