Next Steps

Over the past two years the City Council has been preparing the Local Plan, which will shape the city over the next twenty years.   The next stage in the development of the Plan is the Public Examination, which will take place in the next few weeks.  For further information about the Plan and the Examination, see:

Many residents are worried about the proposal to build 15,600 new homes in the district, with 4,000 going into a major development off the New Dover Road.  Other people are anxious about traffic congestion, air pollution, the provision of infrastructure, the protection of open space and the natural environment, the deterioration of historic buildings and other issues.

This website will keep you up to date about the progress of the Plan and the Public Examination.  We will be posting details about the arrangements for the Public Examination when we have them and you will be able to read comments on the Plan as they appear.  Click here to read comments by John Walker on housing and by Geoff Meaden on traffic aspects of the Plan.  The aim will be to make sure that the issues which worry residents are presented clearly and strongly to the Inspector at the Examination, so that we end up with the best possible Plan for our city.
