The Canterbury Society has been concerned for years about air quality in the city. Some of our members worked with Professor Stephen Peckham and his team measuring air quality in St Dunstan’s Street and were shocked by the high levels of pollutants. Other members of the Society gave up their time to work on a project in which drivers were asked to turn off their engines while stationary at the level crossing gates.
Now the City Council has produced an Action Plan, containing a wide range of proposals and measures designed to improve the quality of the air around Canterbury. What do you think of the proposals? Do they go far enough?
