What place for Canterbury under an East Kent Unitary Council?

Is Local Government Reorganisation the end for Canterbury as a City? Like it or not, Local Government across the country is being reshaped with much larger Councils delivering all local services by early 2028. Canterbury will be combined with at least two other neighbouring Councils, while Kent County council is likely to be abolished.

How can Canterbury preserve its identity and amenities under a Council of 600,000 or more people? Former City Councillor Dave Wilson will provide an update on the rapidly developing situation, and consider whether a Town Council for the City is a viable solution.

He will discuss how local services be protected and tailored to local needs under such large Councils, and how residents’ representation will be affected. Will our Councillors become more remote? And what can be done to protect our City’s status, Lord Mayoralty and local institutions?  All this, and a chance for discussion and questions about this hot topic!

Doors open at 6.30pm and event starts at 7pm
