The Canterbury Historical & Archaeological Association (CHAS) is holding the ‘William Urry Memorial Lecture’ which launches the New Historical Atlas of Canterbury. The lecture on 14th October will be given by Jackie Eales, Professor Emerita, Canterbury Christ Church University and President of the British Association for Local History.

The new Atlas is a comprehensive research project and forthcoming volume (Volume VIII) in the British Historic Towns Atlas series, mapping the city’s physical and historical evolution from Roman times to the present day. It is a collaborative project between the Historic Towns Trust, Canterbury Christ Church University, and the Canterbury Archaeological Trust. In the lecture, Jackie presents maps of the city across different historical periods, offers a concise history of Canterbury from Roman times to the present and explores an A–Z guide to its most significant historic buildings.

Attendance is Free for CHAS members and £5 on the door for non-members.
